There’s an old proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Whether it’s building a ministry, a special project, a new home, or a new life in a new city, it takes community to make those dreams become reality. We oftentimes want to have the end goal without taking the first step. We want the immediacy of God’s awesome power, but it’s not how he always works. Our family is in those beginning stages of building something new, and we’re learning how to walk again step by step with our new community guiding us. The truth is that God is not slow, but it’s that we don’t understand his pace. 2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” There’s a reason we’re told to stop and smell the roses. God works in the tiny details of our everyday lives to sharpen and hone us for the great goals of His kingdom. Embrace the community God has surrounded you with so that you might experience the joy of walking the path of kingdom building.
