The British theologian Richard Whatley said, “All men wish to have truth on their side; but few to be on the side of truth.” We always want to be right in our beliefs, but we don’t always check to see if our beliefs line up with the truth. It’s why we must seek Jesus (who is truth as John 14:6 states) and follow his teaching. Speaking truth to others can be difficult and hurtful. Jesus was full of grace and truth (John 1:14). Being a Christian means we are speaking truthfully (God’s word) but doing it in a loving manner (grace). Truth without grace usually hurts, but truth with grace can bring about deep healing. We’re thankful we have a God who was graceful in truth to us, so that we might spread truth gracefully to the people who need healing.
