Oftentimes our lack of rest comes because we lack the trust we need to have in God. Many of us have said “I don’t have time for that, I’ve got too much work to do” or “I can’t stop this project because without me it won’t get finished.” In reality, God doesn’t need us to do his work but lovingly invites us to join him in the joy of his labor. The world continues to spin regardless if you’re at work, sleeping, or at play. There’s this balance between trusting the Lord and finding rest. Isaiah 26:3-4 says, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.” We must willingly trust God is doing the work and will continue it while he provides us the rest we so desperately need. On the other hand, we sometimes need to stop and rest a moment because we aren’t trusting well. Remember, even Elijah needed a nap and a snack because he wasn’t trusting God fully (1 Kings 19:1-8). Our prayer is that you might find rest as you fully surrender trust unto the Lord.
