The pursuit of God is a lifelong process. Its results are also not what we typically expect. Most of us at some point have wrongfully believed that if we get our prayer life together, read our Bible, and stay spiritually disciplined that all our ducks will line up in a row. We then go through pain, health issues, job losses, and all-around tough life decisions. Biblically the pursuit of God means prosperity in Him not prosperity in the world. God doesn’t guarantee a perfect healthy body, with the perfect job, marriage, and life. Psalm 34:10 says, “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” So, what are the things that are guaranteed? Paul puts it best in Philippians 4:11-13 when he says, “Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” The beauty of pursuing God is that we have him, he provides for our needs, and gives us the contentment in every situation whether good or bad. In ministry and in life we keep hitting tough issues and enjoying moments of rest. In all those moments we continue to pursue Christ, and we encourage you to do the same.
