What exactly is home? Is it the structure we create around us that provides a place to sleep, eat, and take shelter? We’ve known many people who live in houses, apartments, trailers, and other secure places that don’t quite feel “at home”. We married in Texas and our children were born in Texas, yet it was only when we traveled to familiar places in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama did we feel a sense of being at home (no knock on the great state of Texas!). True home is where you feel peace, comfort, safety, and a sense of relaxation and rest. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Part of what we do as believers is create that home which points to the hope of the perfect home to come. People wander this earth seeking a sense of purpose, belonging, and community. When they cross the threshold into our home, we get the privilege of providing the truth of who Jesus is and the rest their souls need.
