Everyone has a community, but there’s a difference in having community and being in community. When we engage our community, we are participating in fellowship. We must love others well regardless of our personal thoughts towards them. 1 John 2:9-10 says, “Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.” We can’t choose what are brothers and sisters like, dislike, or what culture they come from. But we can choose to obey God by growing in Christ with them and helping share one another’s burdens even as we carry our own loads (Galatians 6:2-5). Fellowship can be difficult at times but is always worth it.
