St. Basil the Great once said, “A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love."People are drawn to the idea of random acts of kindness. For a Christian it’s not so random. It’s intentional. Kindness is one of the fruits of the Spirit written in Galatians 5:22. In the 13th chapter of 1 Corinthians Christian love is first known as being patient but almost simultaneously is described as being kind. Sometimes we forget or neglect the ministry of kindness. However, Jesus showed us there’s no end to this kindness that should be given. He dined with sinners, shared the Gospel with those outside his “supposed societal boundaries”, showed compassion on the sick, and forgave those who hurt him. Kindness works in small ways yet opens such great doors for relationships and conversations. May God remind all of us that kindness, no matter how small, is used by God to draw people to Jesus.
