Change is hard, and moving is one of the top five stressful life events. As much as we want stability, our lives are a series of transitions. A pastor of ours would teach that you are either in a storm, coming out of one, or about to go into another. If transitions are a part of life, then how we respond reveals what our relationship with God is like. Chuck Swindoll is known for saying that life really is 10% of what happens to us and 90% how we react to it. Life transitions like job loss, death of a loved one, moving, or illness can bring about reactions of anger, fear, loneliness, depression, and anxiety. These emotions and reactions will fester and create hardened hearts if we do not look to Jesus in these moments. Our family has been waiting to transition to ministry in Marseille for close to ten years. If our reactions were not based in who God is and what he has promised, we would have given up by now. Instead, we return to scripture every time there’s a roadblock in our transition. Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” God knows our transitions, and he’s with us every step of the way. Be encouraged!
